Importance of Tripund: In astrology, the 3 lines of Tripund are considered very auspicious. It is believed that 27 gods reside in them and 9 gods reside in a line. Therefore, by applying Tripund Tilak, the person gets the blessings of 27 gods along with Lord Shiva.
Correct way of applying Tripund:
Tripund of red sandalwood, white sandalwood, Ashtagandha and Bhasma is applied to Bholenath. To apply Tripund, first make two lines upwards on the forehead with the middle finger and ring finger of the right hand. After this, make a line below with the index finger. Tripund is applied from the forehead to the eyes and from the forehead to the eyebrows.
