Why should Rakhi not be tied during Bhadra period?
According to mythological beliefs, Bhadra is the daughter of Lord Surya and Unati’s wife Chhaya and is the sister of Shani Dev. It is believed that Bhadra was born with the face of Gardabha, long tail and 3 legs to kill the demons. As soon as she was born, Bhadra started creating obstacles in Yagya, chanting, penance and auspicious activities. Seeing her nature, Suryadev started worrying about her marriage. Everyone rejected Suryadev’s marriage proposal. Suryadev came to seek advice from Brahmaji. Brahmaji ordered Bhadra to be situated in the sky and allowed to roam on the earth at a certain time. Therefore whenever Bhadra comes to earth, this period is called Bhadrakaal. Brahmaji said – If a person does any auspicious work including house warming during Bhadra period, then you should create obstacles in his work. You spoil the work of those who don’t respect you. Since then, auspicious works started being prohibited during Bhadra period.
