Central Goods and Services Tax officials have increased tax evasion by Rs 1.95 lakh crore in 25,397 cases from April to January in the current financial year. This revelation was shared in Parliament on Monday, highlighting the government’s efforts to fight tax evasion.
In the last five years, the authorities have detected a total of 86,711 GST theft cases, which is an amount of Rs 6.79 lakh crore. In the current financial year by January 2025, the total number of total theft cases was 25,397, of which the total detection amount was Rs 1,94,938 crore. In particular, a voluntary deposit of Rs 21,520 crore was deposited in relation to these tax evasion cases.
The total number of ITC fraud cases in the current financial year was 13,018, which included an amount of Rs 46,472 crore. A voluntary deposit of Rs 2,211 crore was made.
According to GST investigation wing data, Rs 2.30 lakh crore was included in the financial year 20,582 theft cases in 2023-24.
