According to the legend, Lord Shri Ram had killed Ravana on the day of Dashami, which is considered as a symbol of the victory of righteousness over unrighteousness and the victory of good and truth over evil and falsehood. There is also a belief that on Dashami itself, Mother Durga had killed Mahishasura.
