Shraddha Paksha 2024: In Sanatan Dharma, the works of Tarpan, Shraddha and Pind Daan are considered important in Shraddha Paksha for the peace of the ancestors. This year, Shraddha Paksha has started from Pratipada date of Ashwin month on 18th September, which will end on 02nd October on Amavasya date. Keep these things in mind while performing Shraddha:

It is considered good to use silver utensils for Arghya, Pinda and food in Shraddha. Serve Shraddha food in silver or bronze utensils. In their absence, leaves can be used.

Shraddha food should not be served in banana leaves and earthen pots.

It is believed that cow’s ghee, milk or curd should be used for Shraddha rituals. At the same time, if a cow has recently given birth to a child, its milk should not be used.

It is believed that during Shraddha, Brahmins should eat food in silence. Food should not be praised.

It is considered important to have Ganga water, milk, honey, Dauhitra, Kush and sesame seeds for Shraddha. It is believed that sesame seeds protect Shraddha from vampires and Kusha from demons.

It is not considered good to perform Shraddha at cremation grounds, temples and impure places.

It is believed that while having Shraddha food, if any needy or beggar comes to the door, then he should not be allowed to leave empty handed. Due to this one does not get the full results of Shraddha ritual. Therefore, make sure to feed him also.

On the day of Shraddha, a Brahmin should not use one hand while serving food. It is believed that demons snatch this food. Therefore, use both hands while serving food.

For Brahmins, one should not prepare Shraddha food in anger nor touch the food with feet. Along with this, while preparing food, the face should be in the east direction. Do not cook food facing south.

On the day of Shraddha, along with providing food to the Brahmins, the needy and the poor, also take out food for the cow, dog, crow and ants.
