Vedanta’s Agrawal wants a partner for India nuclear power plants


Billionaire Anil Aggarwal-controlled Vedanta Group is demanding dialects from global firms to build five gigawatts of nuclear power capacity in India, which is planning to use to meet the energy needs on the mining group its facilities .

According to an advertisement published on the website of Vedanta Limited, the mining tycoon company is looking for a global recognized firm, with track records of design, construction and operation of nuclear power plants. The initial dialects are to be presented within 30 days, the company said on Thursday.

Earlier this month, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitarman said that India would make legislative amendments to allow private firms in nuclear power production. The country would change its liability law, aimed at a safety tool, but ended as a preventive for private companies to enter the industry.

With a change in adjacent law, India’s focus has turned into small and modular reactors. Still in the newborn stages of development, technology promises to be low upfront capital costs and capacity in size.

Vedanta said that according to the advertisement, the land would arrange for the support of the infrastructure and regulatory approval for the plants. The huge group businesses ranging from the extraction of crude oil to the aluminum and zinc production are spread across the country.
