Waqf bill was reported in Rajya Sabha amidst opposition uproar

The report of the Joint Committee of Parliament on the Waqf Bill was encouraged in the Rajya Sabha between the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, abbreviated after a warm debate between the Treasury and the opposition bench with the proceedings.

Opposition MP Mallikarjun Kharge, led by the Leader of the Opposition, alleged that dissatisfaction notes were removed from the report, an allegation denied by Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju.

The report on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill was called by the member of the panel, Member of BJP Medha Vishwam Kulkarni.

The report created a ruckus by the members of the opposition bench after the report sorting.

Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar tried to read a message from President Draupadi Murmu.

“Do not show disrespect to the President of India …” Dhankhar said and urged Kharge that opposition members should be asked to take their seats.

As the uproar continued, the upper house was adjourned till 11:20 am

When the upper house was re -organized, the Speaker read the President’s message that he received an expression of thanks by members of the Rajya Sabha at his address to sit on a joint sitting of Parliament on 31 January.

When the Speaker tried to move forward with zero hours, the opposition members continued to protest and some MPs thrown into the House well.

House leader JP Nadada regretted that when the President’s message was read, Rajya Sabha was not in order.

Chairman Dhanker said that Sameerul Islam, Nadimul Haq and M Mohammad Abdullah created anarchy and disruption in the house.

Kharge was then called to speak.

The Congress chief said that in the report on the Waqf bill, the dissatisfaction notes of opposition MPs were rebuilt from the report.

“Report of the Joint Committee of Parliament on Waqf … in which many members had given their dissatisfaction note. Bulldozing the report is not correct keeping in mind the views of the majority members. It is condemnable, anti -democratic, anti -democratic, anti -democratic Is “he said.

Calling it a ‘fake report’, he said that it should be withdrawn and sent back to a committee.

He said that MPs are protesting not for personal reasons but for injustice being done for a community.

“This is not about any person … These MPs are not resisting for themselves, they are opposing the community against which injustice is being done,” Kharge said.

DMK’s Thiruchi Shiva and AAP’s Sanjay Singh also objected to the removal of dissatisfaction notes from the report.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Rijiju, however, denied the charge.

He said, “There is no delay or removal of removal or removal of any part of the report. Do not mislead the House. Opposition members (are) are making unnecessary issues. The allegation is false,” he said.

Union ministers Bhupendra Yadav and Nirmala Sitarman also accused the opposition parties of misleading the upper house, causing another warm exchange between the Treasury and the opposition benches.

Syed Nasir Hussain of Congress accused Rijiju – who is also the Union Minority Affairs Minister – to mislead the House and said, “My own dissatisfaction note has been redefined.”

TMC member Saket Gokhale said that it was not a ‘religious’ but a ‘constitutional issue’.

Rijiju reiterated that the report had all the attachments and nothing was extracted.

Opposition MPs then staged a walkout and the house proceeded with the question hour.
